This little barefoot 6-year-old walked the whole way with us until Lovely picked her up and carried her on her back. We would have offered but we were exhausted and knew we would have fallen on our behinds and squished her. I told them that the Haitians were more like mules and we were more like horses when it came to climbing the mountains. It was hard to feel tough and athletic following this pair.
